Steps

The Cabucelle district is a place of traffic between Saint-Louis and Les Crottes, inhabited by a popular social class from immigration. This site is marked by the presence of industrial brownfield sites in very good structural condition, which represents a strong potential for rehabilitation. So I chose to work on a former depot and hangar of the Marseille shipbuilding company to set up a place of food from different cultures. This will thus make it possible to avoid trips to do their daily shopping and encourage encounters by offering public spaces to the inhabitants of La Cabucelle and the northern districts.

In addition, the presence of schools in the vicinity expresses a need for an access to culture through books and digital technology. This is why I decided to provide space for a library. Finally, a new building comprising an exhibition space with artists' studios will make it possible to reach a family target and have the possibility of offering performances that open onto the public space.

Taking into account the architecture of the main building, I decided to keep the structure as a whole and just demolish the old brick filling with openings for more light. The insulation is also very optimized with an exterior insulation covered with a brickwork that recalls the heritage side of the site.

Conversely, the new building contrasts entirely with completely glazed facades and makes it possible to support the old existing arches of the site.
