Aygalades river
Urbanism & Landscaping - Marseille - 2022
General presentation
The Aygalades river is one of the two rivers in the city of Marseille. 16 km long, it offers remarkable landscapes in a urban setting. The Cité des Arts de la Rue is part of a process of renaturation of the riverside by creating a green and blue grid up to the next François Biloux park to make the link with Euromediterranean project.
This project involves urban reflection of a program along the Aygalades river. My project includes on the one hand, the extension of the cultural complex of the Cité des Arts de la Rue with the rehabilitation of two buildings and on the other hand, the construction of an inhabited park in connection with the renaturation of the river.

Steps
My project is located near the city of street arts on the northern portion of the stream. It is located between the city of Aygalades and the district of La Viste en haut. I decided to establish myself on the 2 banks of the stream and create a green and blue frame and thus make the link with the Euro-Mediterranean project and the François Biloux park a little lower._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_
Thanks to the feasibility study on the cascade of the city of street arts made by Julien Rodriguez, we really understand the issues.
My project includes the creation of 7 buildings arranged in plots comprising a total of 150 housing units in an urban park. My buildings which have a square dimension of 18m x 18m, and inclined are inspired by the city of Aygalades. It therefore acts as an extension of the city and fits perfectly into the master plan. These plots of different heights and slightly inclined thus make it possible to obtain viewpoints over the city to the south.
I also decided to dislodge 2 transport companies to create a real complex around art on the left bank of the river. These 2 new buildings will respectively house a cinema, with 7 rooms and a set of dance or performance studios.
Without becoming totally accessible to the public, the city of the arts is part of a public park in which I come to create a point of centrality with this circular shadehouse. It thus comes to form a polarity within the urban park.
To the north, premises are intended for a landscaping company. So I decided to strengthen this environment by adding a school focused on landscaping and gardening in the crosspieces of buildings that would just need to be rehabilitated. I have also set up experimental gardens in which people in training can practice but also where the inhabitants and people of the city of arts can intervene. This place turned around landscaping is very relevant in the establishment of the park.
The urban park is designed to densify the vegetation around the stream. It is woven from Avenue Paul Gaffarel in the south to the Aygalades cemetery in the north and makes the link between the city of Aygalades in the east and the lower part of the Viste district in the west. You can enjoy the stream. First of all, look at it thanks to a wooden observatory and paths along the stream, and cross it thanks to bridges suspended by cables. They make it possible to register discreetly in the landscape and to limit their impact on nature but also to manage the difference in level between the 2 banks and not to be constrained by an excessive range. For this, I was particularly inspired by the Himalayan footbridge of Drac in Isère with nearly 200 m of range.
Regarding my current floor plan, I mainly focused on the design of a T3 with a double exposure. I then worked on the variation in version T4 and in the studio. It is assembled by rotating the housing 90°. I also wanted to compare it to a current floor plan of the city of Aygalades.
Like the towers of the King of Spain hidden in the vegetation of the Calanques National Park, I wanted to create an inhabited park in which we do not distinguish the limit of the residences thanks to a butte which will thus conceal the fence and or the vegetation continuity effect is present.
The ground floor is divided into 2 levels to form an airlock between the exterior and the common areas.
On the ground floor, there is a large garbage room for outdoor bicycles. This makes it easier to reach the common parking lot of the residences under towers 3 & 4. There is also a laundry area and a gym for the inhabitants of the building but also common rooms.
In conclusion, my project is an urban planning and landscape project where culture is placed at the center of the activities of a new residential district which is part of a brand new green space brought up to date.
